All right, let's talk about the map.
Have you ever sat down to start your job search, looked at everything you're supposed to do — the resume, the LinkedIn, the networking, the applications, the interview prep — and just felt your chest get tight? Where do you even start? Which thing matters most? Everybody's got an opinion, and somehow their opinion is always "all of it, right now."
Here's the thing. That feeling isn't a you problem. It's a sequence problem.
I spent more than two decades on the hiring side of the desk, and I'll tell you what I saw over and over again. The candidates who struggled weren't short on talent — they were short on order. They'd polish a resume before they knew what job they wanted, or they'd network with no story to tell, and every piece of work they did undid the piece before it. You can't market a product you haven't defined. Nobody can.
So this course runs in five phases, in a very deliberate order, and this lesson is your map — so let me walk you through it.
Phase one is Foundation and Strategy — modules one and two. Before you touch a resume, you decide whether to stay or go, you get your finances clear, and you define exactly what you're hunting. Your target, your list of companies, your tracking dashboard — this is the thinking phase, and it powers everything after it.
And phase two is Brand and Story — module three. Now that you know what you're selling and who's buying, we build the materials — your career story, your resume, your LinkedIn, your thirty second pitch. Notice the order there? Materials come after strategy. Always.
Now, phase three is Search Execution — modules four and five. Networking first, applications second, and that order is on purpose too, because your network will open more doors than any job board ever will.
So phase four is Interview and Negotiation — modules six and seven, where you win the room, and then you win the number.
And phase five is Post-Hire and Lifelong Growth — modules eight through ten. Your first ninety days, your career growth, and the operating system that keeps running long after this course ends — plus a bonus module on advanced AI strategies at the very end.
Now, let me tell you about Molly, because Molly is what happens when somebody actually trusts the sequence. Molly got laid off, and when she came to me she wanted to skip straight to applications — just get me in front of jobs, Cat. And I said, Molly, what are we aiming at? Well… anything, really. And that right there was the problem. Anything means nothing. So we went back to phase one, and she did the foundation work first, and then the story, and then the search. Three weeks after she started searching for real, Molly had six interviews and three offers on the table. Three offers. Not because she worked harder than everybody else, but because every step was standing on the step before it.
Now here's the honest part. This is a six to eight week path, and I know some of you want it done by Friday. I get it — the pressure is real, and the bills are real. But sprinting through the map is how you end up back at the beginning, and you've already tried the fast, frantic way. It didn't get you there, and that's not on you — nobody ever handed you the sequence. Here's the catch, though, and it's good news. You never have to do the whole thing at once. You only ever have to do one lesson, build one small piece, and move on. That's the whole job. One bite at a time.
So here's your assignment for this lesson, and I want you to actually do it.
First, look at the roadmap and find the one part that makes you the most nervous. Maybe it's interviewing. Maybe it's negotiation — it usually is. Circle it. And then tell yourself, out loud, I'm not allowed to worry about that until I get to that module. I call that strategic procrastination, and it works — you've got a map now, so let the map hold it for you.
Second, open your calendar and block your three to five hours a week for the next eight weeks. Not "I'll find time." Blocked, recurring, protected.
Do those two things and you're done here — you'll have a plan while everybody else has panic, and you'll feel the difference this week — I promise you, the calm is coming.
Go circle the scary one, and I'll see you in the next lesson.
